The Julius Nyerere Hydropower Landmark
The Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), constructed across the Rufiji River in eastern Tanzania, is among Africaβs largest hydroelectric generation stations with an installed capacity of 2,115 Megawatts across 9 vertical-shaft Francis turbine units. Power generation equipment was engineered and manufactured by leading global power consortium Dongfang Electric Corporation (DEC).
SCHWERLL High-Pressure Energy Storage Supply
SCHWERLL manufactured and supplied the critical emergency accumulator banks integrated into the hydraulic governor oil pressure units (OPU):
- Fail-Safe Shutoff Energy: Under black-start or electrical blackout conditions, the accumulator banks supply stored pressurized oil to close the main turbine wicket gates, preventing hydraulic runaway and water hammer pressures in the penstocks.
- High Reliability in Tropical Ambient: Designed for continuous operation in high-humidity, high-ambient tropical river conditions with specialized marine-grade external epoxy coating systems and zero-leakage nitrogen pre-charge valve assemblies.
- Full Factory Testing: 100% pressure holding and dynamic discharge rate testing conducted before overseas maritime export.
This project highlights SCHWERLLβs long-standing cooperation with Chinaβs central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in delivering high-parameter fluid machinery for international Belt and Road clean energy landmarks.
